Matt Cardona Doesn’t Know Why He Didn’t Do More With AEW/ROH, Confirms He Wasn’t Offered A Contract

Matt Cardona doesn’t know why his stint with AEW/ROH came to an end.

In late 2024, Matt Cardona appeared on various shows for both AEW/ROH, building up to his match with Chris Jericho at the Final Battle pay-per-view.

Cardona would end up losing that match, failing to capture the ROH World Championship from Jericho. Since then, Cardona has not appeared for either company.

In a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Cardona talked about his short run and how wrestling Jericho was a dream match for him.

"So then I go away for a couple of months, and then I got a call, 'Hey, you interested in working Chris Jericho at the Hammerstein Ballroom?' Yeah, let me think about it. Duh! Again, one of my childhood idols, he was on my birthday cake, but I was ninth grade. I love Chris. As a performer, I look up to Chris. So to wrestle Chris, we had a whole program, and for Ring of Honor, had to do it. Another dream match."

Cardona went on to confirm that he was not offered a contract by AEW/ROH.

"Again, I don't know. Dave Meltzer reported that I got offered a contract, but I did not, so I don't know what happened."

Fightful’s own Sean Ross Sapp first had the news back in December.

Elsewhere in the interview, Cardona once again commented on not getting the call to return to WWE yet. Check out his full comments here.
